The Word

Psalm 119:1-88; 1 King 3-4, 2 Chronicles 1, Psalm 72

“With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!” (Psalm 119:10 ESV)

“I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches. I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word” (Psalm 119:14-16)

“Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.” (Psalm 119:18)

“Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wondrous works. My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word!” (119:27-28 ESV)

“Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments. Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice, because I have hoped in your word.” (119: 73-74 ESV)

“May all who fear you find in me a cause for joy, for I have put my hope in your word.” (119:74)

Solomon asks for wisdom:

“Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?” (1 Kings 3:9)

NOTE: all verses are NLT (New Living Translation) unless specified otherwise…

1 King 1-2, Psalm 37, 71, 94

“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” (Psalm 37: 4)

“The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.” (Psalm 37: 23-24)

Penny Lane

Psalm 111-118

“Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom.” (Psalm 111:10)

I think we hear that we are supposed to fear the LORD but we don’t really understand what that means. We get so focused on how he loves us and how he is our friend and father and comforter, but we lose sight of God’s justice. We lose sight of the fact that He is all powerful, and He will be pronouncing judgement on us, and what that judgement entails. Yes God loves us, but His love is not just a warm fuzzies kind of feeling. God’s love goes hand in hand with justice, both sides have to be satisfied. We also don’t like to talk about God being angry. That’s not just an Old Testament thing. God hasn’t changed.

“Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!” (Psalm 116:2)

Love this verse.

Get Back

Psalm 131, 138-139, 143-145; 1 Chronicles 26-29, Psalm 127

“Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” (Psalm 139:24)

This is my prayer for my life. What better way to grow is there?

“I lift my hands to you in prayer. I thirst for you as parched land thirsts for rain.” (Psalm 143:6)

The LORD is a necessity, once you experience his presence and his life, nothing else could possibly satisfy.

“The LORD is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth.” (Psalm 145:18)

So what are you waiting for?

Psalm 127 is written by Solomon, how cool is that? Solomon is now king, and I finished the book of 1 Chronicles (12th book officially finished!).

Can’t buy me love…

2 Samuel 24, 1 Chronicles 21-22, Psalm 30; Psalm 108-110; 1 Chronicles 23-25

2 Samuel is officially completed; that being the 11th book of the bible that I’ve finished, out of 66.

“I cried out to you, O Lord. I begged the Lord for mercy, saying, “What will you gain if I die, if I sink into the grave? Can my dust praise you? Can it tell of your faithfulness? Here me, Lord, and have mercy on me. Help me, O Lord.” You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!” (Psalm 30:8-12)

“Now seek the LORD your God with all your heart and soul. Build the sanctuary of the LORD God so that you can bring the Ark of the LORD’s covenant and the holy vessels of God into the Temple built to honour the LORD’s name.” (1 Chron 22:19)

-> I love how there is such unity between the New and Old Testament. Seek the LORD your God. Love the LORD your God with all your heart. The has always been the same.

-> If your body is a temple, is it a sanctuary for the LORD? Is it honouring him?

So its been a while. I’ve been in a bit of a funk, and then I got behind and it took me forever to get caught up again. But I am back on schedule.

Here are a few of the verses I started to write down.

“How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!” (133:1)

“Again and again he rescued them, but they chose to rebel against him, and they were finally destroyed by their sin. Even so, he pitied them in their distress and listened to their cries. He remembered his covenant with them and relented because of his unfailing love.” (Psalm 106:43-45)

“Those who are wise will take all this to heart; they will see in our history the faithful love of the LORD.” (Psalm 107:43)

Here’s a few to look up:

Psalm 50:8-15

Psalm 3:5 (I like the NLT version)

Psalm 51:12, 17

Martha My Dear

Psalm 102-104; 2 Samuel 5:1-10, 1 Chronicles 11-12

“Let all that I am praise the LORD;

with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.

Let all that I am praise the LORD;

may I never forget the good things he does for me.

He forgives all my sins

and heals all my diseases.

He redeems me from death

and crowns me with love and tender mercies.

He fills my life with good things.

My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

The LORD is compassionate and merciful,

slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.”

Psalm 103: 1-5, 8
